After reading, "The Politics of Rescue", I definitely have to agree with the authors point of view. I think that as terrible as things are in other countries, we cannot just do whatever we want. There will be times when America steps in and helps resistance with their cause. However, we cannot be the ones who try to fix everything and interfere with problems that do not involve us at all. I think that there are people who believe that as Americans, we have a responsibility to do everything to stop bad groups from taking power. What they don't realize is that we couldn't really handle all of the problems in this world. Instead, we should try and step back, and let the countries try and work things out. I think that American interference should only be used as a last resort or if a country's actions are aimed against us.

I agree with you in certain instances. However, if there is a horrible atrocity happening in another country I do not believe Americans should just stand aside and let them deal with their problems. Every country needs help, every person for that matter and we are all living on the same world and should work together to make things right. War is a global issue and I think there are specific times when America as a country needs to responsibly step in and help the country work out its differences. But then again there are other times that leaving it alone is the better option. I don't think we can set down a hard fast rule about this issue.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that there are situations where America has to do something to help another country. Like when the Holocaust was going. That had to be stopped. However i do agree that we shouldn't meddle in every countries affairs. We do have problems of our own. I think Julie makes a good point in saying that this is not an issue that can just be settled with a definitive answer. In the end, different situations call for different actions.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with some of your argument, and have stronger opinions on others. Although I agree that it is very impractical, and therefore difficult to argue a point for, I think that the United States should do all that it can to help other countries in need. I believe that with our advantages and rescourses it is our duty as a nation to help benefit the rest of the world and strive for a sense of international cooperation for when we may be in our own time of need. Overall, I think that it is just as important to help people of other countries as it is to help our own.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on this issue. I can't stand how America has to step in on other country's business. We have our own country to take care of. They have political leaders as well so we should let them do the job they were hired for. America may think they are helping, but in some cases they are only making matters worse.
ReplyDeleteI also agree fully with your comments on the article. I think that America can help other countries when there are horrible things happening. However, we need to learn when to step in and when to not step in. Vietnam is a really good example. We fought a war and lost so many lives and we coudn't really help to begin with.
